Norwich
Pharmaceuticals, a US-based outsourcing provider of pharmaceutical
manufacturing, packaging, and associated QA services, has installed a
new, state-of-the-art Bosch GFK 1400L commercial scale encapsulation
machine. This new encapsulation machine will support the growth of new
business and will be operational the first quarter of 2005. The new
encapsulation machine increases the current encapsulation capacity of
Norwich;
and importantly, expands encapsulation capabilities, operational
flexibility, and responsiveness.
The Bosch GKF 1400L is a state-of-the art encapsulator,
incorporating a liquid filling station for the filling of liquids or
semi-solids into hard shell capsules. The newly-designed GKF 1400L
combines the latest technology and ergonomic engineering with cGMP
compliant design and layout for easy changeover and maintenance. The
GKF 1400L also utilizes the latest Enhanced Segment Cleaning technology,
which is an improved method of cleaning the individual capsule holders.
The GKF 1400L can accommodate capsule sizes from 00 to
5 and DB. Operating at speeds up to 84,000 capsules per hour (1400 per
minute), the GKF 1400L will compliment two existing encapsulators
currently in operation at
Norwich.
The GKF 1400L software is 21 CFR Part 11 compliant and
the machine is easily adaptable to include pellet and tablet filling,
capsule cap and body scanning.
Associated with the GKF 1400L installation, Norwich has upgraded a manufacturing suite to Intermediate Potency
capability. The new suite will also support processing in a very low
humidity environment, ranging from 15 to 20% RH.
Carolyn Gherardi, Plant Manager of
