Norwich Pharmaceuticals Adds New Packaging Line
March 7, 2004 -Norwich, NY – Norwich Pharmaceuticals, a US-based outsourcing provider of pharmaceutical, packaging, and associated QA services, has purchased a new, state-of-the-art solid dose packaging line. This line will support the growth of new business and will be installed during the second quarter, 2004. The new packaging line increases the packaging capacity of Norwich; but more importantly, increases operational flexibility and responsiveness.
The key technology in the line is the filler, which utilizes an electric capacitance method of counting tablets as it fills the bottles. This technology can be used to not only count the tablets, but also to check the physical quality of the tablets, rejecting chipped and broken tablets. The entire line uses fast and easy changeover technology. This technology reduces change part costs by 80%-90%. Much of the production and change part cost is achieved by the elimination of the need for filler slats. The reduction in change part costs is also accompanied by a reduction in the lead time for the minimal number of change parts needed for each new product.
The line has a wide range of filling capabilities, from five tablets per bottle to 2,000 tablets per bottle. This includes bottle capacities ranging from 1 oz. (30cc) to 32 oz. (950cc).
The full scope of the line includes the capability to automatically unscramble, air clean, fill, cap, induction seal, retorque, label, topsert, and bundle bottles. On-line quality control devices will also be utilized to insure proper fills, proper capping and induction sealing. Vision technology will assure correct label application, as well as topsert presence on 100% of the bottles. Linked to the quality control devices will be kickout stations for rejecting bottles which don’t meet specifications.
